Prominent Search Engines

While there are literally hundreds of search engines to choose from, a majority of traffic comes from a handful of search engines.

Google
Google holds the crown as the number one search engine today. Google's minimalist approach and focus on delivering relevant results has made it the most popular search engine on the Web.

All the Web
All the Web, like Google, focuses on delivering relevant search results.

Altavista
A pioneer in the search engine field, Altavista offered the first, fully indexed search for web sites. Altavista has since adopted a minimalist approach similar to Google's, and offers special features such as searching for video or audio files, as well as their famous Babel Fish translation tool.

MSN
Microsoft offers simple text searches based on a number of databases, and has also begun developing its own spider software dubbed "MSNBot".

Yahoo
Yahoo, another pioneer in the search field, has both a human-edited database of sites as well as a comprehensive database of indexed sites.
